Ryan has been a member of our AKS Toledo club since 2019. He joined to spend more time with his son Alex, who is now also a 3rd Brown. Several years later, his daughter Katie, now a 7th Yellow, also joined our club making this a family affair.

Ryan clearly is an outstanding student in terms of techniques; however, his attitude toward martial arts and commitment to our club truly set him apart. I rely on Ryan regularly in class. He is always the first student to help get the gym ready for class and the first to help clean up. He takes it upon himself to ensure we are ready so that everyone can get the most out of our time together.

I also frequently rely on Ryan to lead our continuing students while I work with our beginner students. I know that whatever I ask him to teach or demonstrate will be done correctly, and that the students are being led by someone who is not only excellent at martial arts, but also dedicated to helping our lower-rank students.

Ryan also takes it upon himself to expand his knowledge of martial arts outside the gym. One of his rank requirements is a self-defence demonstration and knowledge of kata bunkai. I know from our conversations, and his actions in class, that he actively searches the internet for different and new techniques he can apply in class. His desire for new knowledge will serve him well as he continues his journey as a martial artist.

Congratulations Ryan Tusin!
